When Should I Replace or Update my Vehicle Wrap?

When Should I Replace or Update my Vehicle Wrap?

Most people that have vehicle wraps do so to advertise a business or service, or even a specific product. The cost isn’t insignificant, but if you’ve already gotten a vehicle wrap that doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t need to update or replace the wrap eventually. There are a few reasons why you would want to do this, and after reading this you will know if Tupp Signs can help promote your business or product better with a light update, or a fresh new replacement wrap.

Update Branding

This may seem obvious, but if your company branding has changed you may want to update your car wrap. This could be anything from a new company name or slogan, to something as small as a different font or other aesthetic updates. Information on your wrap that isn’t accurate (such as a changed address, or a new company name) may negatively affect your business, as well as hurt your reputation. If you cut corners and avoid updating your advertisements (including your vehicle wrap), customers and clients may wonder where else your business cuts corners. Updating branding may mean that you may only need a partial update to your wrap, depending on what exactly has changed with your business. For an address or a company name, even a slogan, a partial wrap may be enough to update any changes you’ve made. However if you’ve made drastic changes to your business it may make more sense to get an entirely new wrap that reflects the current iteration of your company’s aesthetic goals and business profile.

Fix Faded or Damaged Wraps

Most wraps are durable and can survive a lot of abuse, but no wrap is impervious to wear and tear (which can come in many forms). Whether you’ve had a recent accident, powerful weather, debris on the road or even improper care (washing or waxing with material that may damage the wrap), there are plenty of ways a wrap may become damaged or less than perfect throughout your vehicle’s life. Wraps can fade from simply being exposed to the sun for long enough, and a faded wrap may obscure important information on your vehicle, as well as simply look bad and draw skepticism from your client base. Stains can also affect wraps, whether you park under a certain type of tree filled with berries or sap, spill your morning coffee, or if your car spends too much time around well-fed birds, all sorts of stains can form on your wrap. A wash may take out most of these, but sometimes a stain will be too stubborn to come out with a simple wash. Over time small bubbles or tears may form, or if a wrap is poorly maintained or gets dirt under it it may begin to peel. These bubbles and tears may seem small at first, but over time they will get worse and may end up obscuring your information, and will certainly make customers think twice before using your company.

Update an Old Wrap

Vehicle wraps will last a long time, depending on quality of installation, but they won’t last forever. Normally a vehicle wrap will last around six years, give or take a few years depending on quality of installation, regular care and upkeep, and any accidents or unforeseen destruction. Even if you take care of your wrap meticulously, small imperfections and fading will likely occur after a certain amount of time. Besides the normal wear and tear and life expectancy of wraps, there is the business aspect of wanting to update your business’ advertising design to keep potential customers interested and to show that you’re actively caring about your company’s image. While it is true that a vehicle wrap may protect your vehicle’s original paint job and extend it’s value, leaving a fading or cracked wrap could cause the vinyl to bake into the vehicle’s paint, causing very expensive damage. This damage can be avoided however, as long as the vehicle wrap is maintained and updated or replaced in a timely manner as necessary.

How Can I Extend My Vehicle Wrap’s Lifespan?

If you take care to clean and maintain your wrap in accordance with your wrap’s needs, you may be able to extend the life of your vehicle wrap. As opposed to a car wash or a careless/heavy washing, using gentle cleanser and soft cloths to delicately clean your wrap will protect it from the degrading mentioned above. It may also be necessary to wash your wrap from the top to the bottom, so dirty water doesn’t sit on the wrap and cause issues. If any spills or outside stains appear on the wrap, they should be spot cleaned immediately (gently and following care guidelines for your wrap). Pressure washing or heavy cleaning may damage the wrap, or contribute to future damage, and polishing wax should be avoided for matte or textured wraps. A vehicle wrap should never be heated dry, always let your vehicle air dry after a cleaning to avoid any wear and tear to the wrap. All of these methods, as well as keeping your vehicle out of rough weather, out of the harsh sunlight, or away from outside influences may help extend your vehicle wrap’s life, but a wrap will never last forever. But that’s where Tupp Signs comes in!
