Neon Signs

Time for a history lesson. Back in 1910, a Frenchman named Georges Claude discovered a way to use neon and make illuminated signs. In 1923, the first neon signs were lighting streets after conventional light bulbs became the standard. Though neon used to only be available in red, hundreds of colors, shades, and designs have appeared on the market as technology has advanced. Awesome, right? And just like neon has made its statement through the years, customized neon signage for your business will electrify and excite your customers, too.

What Are Neon Signs?

Neon signage is a type of sign with a high impact. The core of the neon sign is the element neon that emits a radiant glow. Within the glass tubing, there is a gas that is either argon or neon. Sometimes, xenon, helium, or krypton is used. Neon produces a bright light, often red, while argon is weaker and is often used for yellow, green, blue, and white light. When these gases are electrified, the gas starts to shine.

Neon art is made by molding glass into a form. The tube can have a diameter of a few millimeters, but the usual measurement is anywhere from 8-11 mm for indoor neon signage and 12-13 mm for outdoor signage.

Why Choose Neon Signs?

Entrepreneurs need eye-catching signs for their storefronts and business interiors that demonstrate their character, company culture, and popular themes. Custom neon signs can be put anywhere—indoors and outdoors—to deliver a message the potential customers and regulars won’t forget. Although neon signs are commonly used by hotels and hostels, bars, restaurants, casinos, and movie theaters, anywhere can use them.

Here are the benefits of using neon signs:

  • Creativity – The biggest advantage of neon signs is the freedom to have multiple designs with many colors, fonts, and themes. You can transform your logo into a neon sign or even use the slogan for your business in a unique font. Don’t settle for a boring sign, liven it up with the creative flexibility of neon.
  • Energy and Cost-Efficient – Although neon signs burn bright, neon itself is a highly affordable element to work with, and it doesn’t require much electricity to operate. This is in part of neon not requiring filament. You don’t have to worry about replacement light bulbs for a long while, either. On average, a neon sign that runs all day will use about 90 watts and cost less than a dollar to run. Compare that to some kitchen appliances that use 900 watts or more for just a few minutes of operation!
  • Durability – With proper maintenance, neon signs can last for 10-12 years before burning out.
  • Easy Installation – Neon signs take very little time to install on the facade of your building or inside. You might just have to mount it to the wall and plug it in. What’s easier than that?
  • Visible and Attractive – Neon signs work day or night, and create a stunning glow in the evening that can attract people from all around. People are conditioned to see bright lights, so take advantage of that.

Neon Sign Options

Neon signs have changed only a little since they arrived in America in the 1920s. Nowadays, the signature red is not the only color available. There are over 120 color options to choose from, and neon signs can be shaped into a variety of shapes, sizes, and designs. There are few limitations when it comes to making the neon sign that you want. Many suppliers and manufacturers have a number of fonts to choose from if your sign includes words.

Your sign can also be made with single, double, or triple line neon. Single line neon means that the tube follows the center of the center, while double lines are on the outside edge of the letter’s shape. Triple line is a combo of single and double.

When it comes to mounting options for your neon sign, there’s a few options. You can mount the sign directly onto a wall, wood, metal, aluminum composite or acrylic. If you have other mounts in mind, let us know and we’ll see what can be done.
